I first read Still Life in 2006, and met Louise in 2008 at The Poisoned Pen Bookstore in Scottsdale, Arizona. I only know that Louise Penny, the warm, kind woman who reaches out to others. (Doesn’t an author put herself into many characters?) Clara is a kind woman, who really wants to belong. I see her much more as Clara Morrow, and, she has said that as well. She herself is an example of the duality she writes about. I know that the real blessing here isn’t that I have a book published, but that I have so many people to thank.” I never knew that lonely Louise. “I went through a period in my life when I had no friends, when the phone never rang, when I thought I would die from loneliness. However, here’s the final paragraph in the Acknowledgements in Still Life. ![]() ![]() I recently heard Louise Penny interviewed by her publisher, and, knowing Louise now, it came as a surprise to hear her say she identified with Agent Yvette Nichol. ![]()

![]() ![]() When Creel finally arrives in the King's Seat, she runs into snobby Amalia, the princess of the neighboring kingdom, Roulain, and her dog, Pippin. Along her journey, she befriends another dragon named Shardas, who rescues her from bandits. She doesn't go home, though-she embarks on a long and tiring journey from Carlieff to the King's Seat, where she hopes to find a job as a dressmaker. Creel reminds Theoradus that he said she could pick any shoes she liked, and goes on her way. ![]() Except Theoradus doesn't collect gold-he collects shoes! The only pair that fit Creel are bright blue ones, which Theoradus has no intention of giving her. He lets her go, and lets her pick a "treasure" from his hoard. ![]() So she bargains with the dragon, who's name is Theoradus, and tells him that if he doesn't let her go, he'll have to fight a knight, which he has no interest in doing. Creel is sacrificed to the Brown Dragon of Carlieff, but she doesn't want to wait for a knight to rescue her. A knight will rescue her, and Creel's whole family will be sent to live in the palace. Creel's aunt reads fairy tales, and comes up with an idea to escape poverty: sacrifice Creel to a dragon. She and her brother live with their aunt and uncle, who are very poor. It's about dragons, but with a little twist.Ĭreel is an orphan who lives in the town of Carlieff in a kingdom called Ferevel. This book is funny, entertaining, and fun all the way! Download or stream Only the Strong by Jabari Asim, J. A supernatural element adds another dramatic layer to this fast-paced narrative. The author creates a flawed, complex, and likeable protagonist in Guts. As a special favor, Goode assigns Guts to watch over the flashy baseball player Rip Crenshaw since Goode doesn't trust his replacement enforcer, Sharps, to take care of it. Though Pearl wants to get married, Guts is reluctant to tie the knot due to his violent and dangerous lifestyle. ![]() Guts, who now operates a fleet of taxicabs, has been in a three-year romance with Pearl Jordan, a gorgeous woman with ambitious dreams of owning her own dance studio. Thirty-five-year-old Lorenzo "Guts" Tolliver is the semi-retired "enforcer" for the gangster chieftain Ananias Goode. This thoroughly entertaining and stylish crime novel from Asim (A Taste of Honey) is set in Gateway City, a fictionalized version of Asim's native St. ![]() 5/24/2023 0 Comments Cycle of the werewolf movie![]() With the amount of unsolved murders mounting up, curfews are put in place & events cancelled. However, the townspeople end up forming a vigilante group & going out into the woods to try & find the culprit. The sheriff (Terry O’Quinn) along with the local reverend (Everett McGill) try to keep order as the townspeople get more & more enraged at the lack of results. ![]() A spate of killings seemingly at random with few actual suspects. However this changes when the town is rocked by a series of brutal murders. They do not get along as Jane resents the treatment Marty gets as he is a paraplegic. In particular the young siblings, Jane (Megan Follows) & Marty (Corey Haim). Set in a small American town in 1976, the film focuses on the Coslaw family. A well told story, some great effects & a stellar cast really makes this one of the better King adaptions! It’s no surprise that Silver Bullet is a werewolf horror movie but what is a surprise is just how good it actually is. ![]() ![]() One of the lesser known Stephen King adaptions, Silver Bullet is based off the horror maestro’s novella, Cycle of the Werewolf. ![]() ![]() After reading books such as Robert Ardrey's Territorial Imperative (1966), Morgan decided to take matters into her own hands. Jared: Yes, when I read in a book review that Your Inner Fish was written at a high school reading level, I thought it might be a collection of simple explanations of well-worn material. ![]() The “inner fish” of the title is a reference to the many aspects of human anatomy that resemble similar aspects of fish anatomy, sometimes in surprisingly fundamental ways. ![]() Its subtitle, “a journey into the 3.5 billion-year history of the human body,” is a tipoff to how much the topic of anatomy directs the discussion. Anatomy may sound like dull reading, but I found the book to be both informative and entertaining.
